Microscope has sensitive sideThe H-7650 transmission electron microscope (TEM) from Hitachi High-Technologies includes an integrated digital camera mounted below the film camera chamber. The 1024 x 1024 pixel, highresolution camera provides a sensitivity ~40 times greater than can be obtained using film. The new configuration allows direct imaging at beam dose rates insufficient to excite a traditional fluorescent screen imaging system, so minimizing beam damage to sensitive samples. The instrument's electron optics provide a wide field of view at low magnifications and can be operated in high-contrast or high-resolution modes. The H-7650 TEM features single computer operation and a single display monitor for all microscope control, imaging, and recording functions. The microscope has a number of automated functions for easy imaging, including fast autofocus and an autostigmator.Hitachi High-Technologies has also launched a new specimen stage for its S-2600N variable pressure scanning electron microscope. The stage now gives sample movement of 40 mm in x and y directions, an increase in sample coverage of 220%.It also offers z movement of 5-35 mm, a tilt range of -20° to 90°, and rotation through 360°.
