AN EVALUATION OF VISION SCREENERS FOR VDU USERS
S. Robertson · 1994
An individual’s appropriate visual function is a key variable which contributes to their overall task performance and job satisfaction as well as their potential for industrial accidents. For instance in one study of 284 industrial workers, Desai, Desai, Desai, and Kumar (1990) found a significant visual impairment in 21.8% of their sample so potentially indicating how widespread the problem of inappropriate visual function can be. In a different situation Davison (1985) has found significant associations between visual abilities and various accident variables. It is important therefore both to establish an acceptable visual ‘standard’ for a given task as well as having techniques to measure the required visual functions. Methods and tools, namely vision screeners, which can quickly and accurately assess a person’s visual ability should therefore be an essential part of Ergonomics.
