Sony patents fingerprint screen scan for biometric authentication of smartphones

Sony has filed for a smartphone patent that allows users to scan their fingerprints through the screen for authentication purposes. Previously fingerprint scanning has been available on mobile phones – Motorola Mobility launched the Atrix last year – but the handset had a biometric scanner fitted to its back.
