SOME REMARKS ON THE LINEAR THEORY OF SHELLS

A. E. GREEN, P. M. Naghdi · The Quarterly Journal of Mechanics and Applied Mathematics · 1965

Several aspects of the linear theory of thin elastic shells which bear on recent developments of the subject are dealt with in this paper. These include a further examination of asymptotic integrations of the three-dimensional equations of the classical linear elasticity theory and their extension to dynamic problems, a new derivation of the bending equations of shells and their reduction to the dominant terms of the asymptotic theory, and the problem of edge effect.
