Co‐Management and Co‐Policy Management

Jeremy Moskowitz · 2019

This chapter explains Co-management and Co-Policy management. The Intune Connector enabled an administrator to keep using their on-prem SCCM console and perform the same tasks as if they had simply logged onto Microsoft Intune and done it in that other console. And Microsoft called this the hybrid design. Co-management turns the initial rules on its ear. Instead of actively blocking registration of a device in SCCM and Intune (at the same time), as well as Active Directory (with Group Policy), now they are downright permitting and encouraging it. The idea and rationale to enable co-management came to Microsoft after they realized that organizations simply wouldn't “jump” from all their entrenched on-prem solutions (primarily SCCM) over to Intune (or any MDM). And the idea is that co-management is a way to first connect “all the wires” from Windows 10 to your on-prem systems and also to your MDM system. Then, over time, decide which workloads will be handled by what technology. Co-management has quite a few steps to go through to get enabled if you've got an existing on-prem SCCM infrastructure.
