Computational Engineering Applied to SEO
Véronique Duong · 2019
This chapter starts with a definition of computational engineering: it is a discipline that involves computer science being applied to natural language. This includes many professions related to translation, terminology, text search, opinion search, corpus work and search engine work. When the authors talk about computational engineering, they often associate it with the field of natural language processing. In computational engineering, ontologies are graphs that represent semantic relationships between concepts and themes. The authors find that ontologies and taxonomies are two different concepts in linguistics, which can be interesting to apply in the field of SEO. Speaking of semantic scores, the chapter discusses the notion of term frequency-inverse document frequency, a historical method created in the 1980s by researchers in language and information sciences. When the authors talk about keywords, term weighting, co-occurrents and in texts, it is necessary to address the notion of n-grams and their usefuleness.
