Program types

This chapter synthesizes academic literature to classify program types and codify program modalities, creating a matrix to assist with a cross-sectional analysis of educational value for a range of programs. It classifies program types and then codifies modes of program delivery. Established research on program types and modalities has thus far focused on specific descriptors or subsets of data without extensive cross-sectional analysis. Clarity about primary party delivering the program needs to be articulated based on situation or audience. A home university program might also be provided to other universities or to direct enroll students, thereby making the university a third-party provider. The classification of program types is combined with the codification for modes of program delivery to create the matrix for cross-sectional analysis.
