Knowledge-Based Policy Discovery for Storage and Data Management
Lei Liu · 2011
Data archiving is a common data management application that refers to the long-term data copying algorithms to targeted secondary or tertiary storage. As a medium is recorded in secondary or tertiary storage, it is physically removed and disconnected as off-line storage. Archiving operations will mount and dismount removable mass storage media such as tape libraries and optical jukeboxes into a storage device according to system demands. Upon the occurrence of mount and dismount events, archiving rules specify backup streams to copy data or files to secondary storage by executing read and write routines. In general, archiving is primarily a data management operation in large data center automation.
