Spatial Tessellations
Atsuyuki Okabe · International Encyclopedia of Geography · 2017
This entry introduces several kinds of spatial tessellations (i.e., a set of subareas that are collectively exhaustive for the area and mutually exclusive except for boundaries), including ordinary Voronoi diagrams (VDs), weighted VDs, k ‐th nearest‐point VDs, VDs for lines, VDs for areas, VDs with Minkowski distances (including Manhattan distance), VDs on a network, cylinder, or sphere, Delaunay triangulations, random‐line mosaics and tilings. The computational methods for these are briefly described.
