What the Future Holds

Penelope Muse Abernathy, JoAnn Sciarrino · 2018

Entrepreneurs of all media organizations—including those purely journalistic—need to understand and appreciate how, when, and where customers interact with the products and services an enterprise creates, packages, markets, and distributes. Companies that are focused on customer behavior, wants, needs, emotions, and motivations are able to adapt quickly to changes in the ecosystem and anticipate disruptions. Digital capabilities are intangible assets that differentiate the company from others. Digital content needs to meet the changing needs and preferences of consumers. Augmented reality (AR) has already taken hold on Snap and Facebook's Instagram. AR and virtual reality (VR) have the potential to transform the experiences with movies, television programs, digital books, and interactive games— as well as, potentially, the news and information we receive. The distribution technology can be transformed with 3D printing. Artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics can transform the business and design processes.
