This chapter begins with the definition of elegance and continues to discuss its quality criteria in programming: code leanness; spareness of resource use; the clarity of problem definition; and implementation of the most suitable language on the most suitable system for its execution. The author describes the major aspects of the concept, referring to Donald Knuth's and Gregory Chaitin's works. The chapter analyzes the relationship between software domain and elegance; it also explores the features and advantages of the elegance of computing.
