An Efficient Protocol Conversion Mechanism Between Profinet Network and IPv6 Backhaul Network for Industrial Internet

With the rapid development of the Industrial Internet, the requirements for interconnection of heterogeneous industrial networks have increased. Thus, how to realize efficient protocol conversion between different industrial networks has become an important issue. This paper presents an efficient protocol conversion mechanism between Profinet network and Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) backhaul network, which implements data communication between the two heterogeneous networks via the basic conversion functions, and guarantees the quality of service (QoS) such as priority and periodicity. A test system is built, and the experimental results indicate that the proposed conversion mechanism can achieve the efficient interconnection between Profinet network and IPv6 backhaul network.
