Application servers generally adopt different classloading strategies to resolve dependencies between various classes used in an enterprise application as well as their dependencies on external libraries. Even though Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) defines standards on classloading issues, such as using the classpath manifest attribute and Servlet 2.3 classloading model, it is extremely important that you understand the classloading model adopted by your application server because it significantly influences how you package your various components.
