Expressive Imaging

Ira J. Greenberg, Dianna Xu, Deepak Kumar · Apress eBooks · 2013

Image processing refers to the process of digitally analyzing and manipulating an image so that it becomes more aesthetic or useful in some way. Although most of the time the output is also an image, statistical analysis results based on pixel values such as histograms are also common. Photoshop is perhaps the most well-known image editing software and enjoys a tremendous popularity that has seen the name enter the English language as a verb. It is however worth pointing out that image processing is more than just image editing; it encompasses analyzing, enhancing, and compressing as well as reconstructing images. Beyond aesthetic reasons, image processing is widely used in computer vision and robotics for feature recognition and object tracking, as well as in manufacturing and scientific imaging for high-precision inspection and measurement challenges. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
