Springing forwards

Marc Hamilton Smith · 2020

Where do we go from here? Academic buoyancy is more than coping, it’s also about moving forwards by expanding our capacity to learn lessons from past experiences. Chapter 12 takes a wider approach to buoyancy by discussing the role of classroom climate and school culture in nurturing this ability. It points to the capacity to adapt to changing situations and the role teacher–student and peer relationships can help to create a supportive culture where mistakes are viewed as an inevitable part of learning. Chapter 12 also investigates the way personal bias can derail even the best laid plans and that by recognising this bias in ourselves and in our students can help to supports the basic principles of academic buoyancy.
