The value-stream map is a flowchart describing how value is created for the customer from start to finish-from the inbound supply chain to the outbound distribution channel. It describes the core of the business and is the single most important document management has. Every piece of information managers have been using to run things is nothing more than a bit of data along a value-stream map. Knowing labor efficiency or the cost of something is neither good nor bad unless you can see how it fits into the big picture.
