Event operations

Charles Bladen, James S. Kennell, Emma Abson, Nick Wilde · 2017

This chapter explain the key elements of event operations and evaluates the need for event operations within the wider framework of event planning. It discusses the external legal framework and frameworks that events operate within and considers the importance of contracts and understand the basic contractual requirements for events and also analyses individual event requirements from a logistical perspective. The chapter focuses on the legal external environment–the consideration of legalities, regulations, licences, permits and contracts involved when managing an event–and event logistics–including the logistical planning for both customers and on-site at venues/event sites. One of the key areas to consider is the coordination of all the event suppliers–how and when they will reach the site, and how they will move around the venue, must be planned carefully. Colour-coded wristbands can also be used, acting in the same way as badges to control the movement of staff and suppliers.
