Optimizing the Radio Resource Management Parameters on Node B when Interfacing to an Active DAS, BDA, LNA or TMA

Morten Tolstrup · 2011

When connecting any external uplink or downlink amplifiers to node B, you will offset the UL and DL. It is necessary to evaluate and adjust the basic power control, system-info, noise and timing parameters in the BSS system in order to optimize the performance of an indoor active DAS system. The 3GPP-UMTS specification foresees that external equipment will be connected to the node B antenna connector. This equipment will typically be an LNA or TMA. As UMTS is noise- and power-limited, enhancement of the UL and DL performance can be obtained by the use of UL and DL remote amplifiers to overcome the passive losses from the base station (node B) to the antenna. The correct value of the attenuator needs to be selected in order to have the minimum noise impact and not affect the UL (SNR) performance.
