Brookhaven Nat.Lab.--At BNL we have implemented the technique of sharing discs in order to link together two CDC 6600 computing systems.The role of some new system software is to dynamically allocate disc space among machines using simple algorithms and interlocks together with an allocation map contained on the disc itself.Preliminary results will be presented that indicate the impact on the system in terms of throughput, queue size, service times, number of disc accesses, number of repositioning by means of simulated and live production tests which vary the necessary parameters.
