This chapter discusses how Preston Dudley had a well-known fetish for electronic gadgets and a penchant for expensive things. At age 33, he was successful and his efforts helped contribute to the expansion of Fast Brands Inc., the company where he worked. In addition to his business savvy, he was an accounting software whiz and knew the system very well. A jacuzzi was being added, as well as two extra bedrooms and a second lounge. He seemed to be living well for someone earning less than $30,000 (equivalent to approximately US$56,000) per year. During the meeting the directors indicated that, due to the substantial amount of evidence that he had misappropriated company funds, criminal charges had already been filed against Preston and a docket opened by the police's criminal investigation department about three weeks earlier. They hoped that the police would arrest him before he was alerted to the fact that he was under investigation and absconded. After about one and a half hours, investigators could not reach an agreement. Preston's legal representatives wanted us to drop all criminal charges against Preston in return for him paying back some of the money over two to three years.
