In previous chapter, we discussed the Istio architecture in detail. We worked with the control plane to configure the data plane. The decoupling between the two components allows both of them to operate independently, which leads to improved failure handling. The architecture enables a centralized operations team to configure the infrastructure with generic rules. Istio has different types of rules for different purposes. In this chapter, we will show how to work with the traffic management rules of Istio. Specifically, we will take an existing Kubernetes service and route traffic through it.
