ON THE APPLICATION OF MATHEMATICAL LEARNING THEORIES. I

Raimo Tuomela · Scandinavian Journal of Psychology · 1966

It is argued that the process of operationalizing a (linear) mathematical learning theory consists of a semantical and a ‘structural’ part. Another important aspect of the application of a theory is evaluating its empirical adequacy (goodness‐of‐fit, etc.). In this paper problems connected to operationalization and assumptions concerning parameter in‐variance and homogeneity are discussed, and illustrated in a contingent two‐choice learning situation with partial reinforcement.
