TSA chooses fingerprints for RT programme

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in the USA has announced the selection of fingerprints as the biometric of choice for its nationwide private sector Registered Traveller (RT) programme. The choice of fingerprint technology is a blow to the iris recognition industry, whose technology had been part of RT trials taking place at Orlando International Airport last year (see Orlando Trials), and which has had success globally in these sorts of application, with the UK IRIS scheme a notable example.
