Cybernetics

In the summer of 1947, Wiener was on one of the more interesting of his many travels. On the way to Nancy, France, to attend a conference on harmonic analysis organized by his collaborator S. Mandelbrojt, he stopped off in England to visit many friends. He saw Haldane in London, A.M. Turing at the National Physical Laboratories in Teddington and Grey Walter in Bristol. He also looked up friends in Cambridge and Manchester. The conference itself was interesting. Apart from it leading to a new paper with Mandelbrojt [47a], he got to know first-rate mathematicians of a younger generation such as L. Schwartz, and to reunite with old friends such as Harald Bohr. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
