3G Core Network Planning and Optimisation
Ajay R. Mishra · 2018
Core network planning in a 3G (WCDMA) system consists of both circuit switched (CS) core and packet switched (PS) core planning. The network elements, interfaces and signalling plans are the main areas of focus in the core network plans. This chapter describes the process and changes in the CS and PS cores. The process begins with network analysis and dimensioning, followed by detailed planning to produce the final PS or CS core network plan. The detailed plans for the CS core will include plans related to routing, signalling and parameter settings. The chapter discusses two aspects of detailed PS core network planning, namely: connecting the (PS) core network elements to each other, that is planning for the interfaces and IP addressing and traffic routing. The 3G core network optimisation process is similar to 1G/2G core network optimisation. All three network subsystems contribute to enhancing the End-to-End Quality of Services (QoSs) delivered.
