Target Discrimination

Range performance predictions require a mathematical expression that describes the HVS image interpretation process. Unlike the response of an electronic circuit, the response of a human observer cannot be directly measured but only inferred by many visual psychological experiments. The lowest level of discrimination is a distinction between something and nothing. The highest level is the precise identification and description of a particular object. Between these two extremes lay a continuum of discrimination levels.
