Biometrics continue to evolve

Biometric technology has made significant advances in recent years, so much so that it has effectively turned from a passing curiosity into a viable and cost-effective option for any application where unique identification is important. Despite the progress made, however, there is still plenty of scope for further development — both of existing techniques and for the introduction of new biometric modalities. Through research of more than 200 recently issued patents, the author highlights some of the more unusual new biometrics, as well as more practical developments using mainstream technology.
