Ekwonwune Emmanuel Nwabueze · International Journal of Innovative Research in Science Engineering and Technology · 2016

The Nigerian Communication Commission, NCC [1] indicates that the number of internet users on the country's telecom networks, had increased to 88,284,193 as at May, 2015.BROADBAND Internet is failing to reach majority of those who could benefit most, according to the 2015 International Telecommunications Union (ITU) [2].This piece of work is motivated by the fact that a little percentage of its rural areas has ICT presence and their possible implications. The objective of this paper therefore is to examine the social, economic and political impact of Rural ICT Penetration and Indigenous Software Growth in Nigeria and the way forward. The result was that though there was obvious lapse in ICT penetration in Nigerian rural communities, remedies abound to arrest the impasse.
