ICI Changes Its Soviet Trade Policy

Britain's Imperial Chemical Industries has made a major policy decision concerning future trade negotiations with the Soviet Union. The company is prepared to act as the main contractor for all future transactions between ICI and the Soviet Union, supplying plant and know-how in a package deal. Until now ICI had confined itself to supplying only know-how under license. The Soviet Union favors the new arrangement and intimates that it could lead to more extensive business with the U.K. The decision came after a meeting between Id's chairman S. Paul Chambers and top company officials, and a Soviet trade mission that had been visiting England during December. V. A. Klentsov, president of Tech-mashimport, the Soviet state organization for purchasing heavy plant and machinery, headed the Soviet team. With him were V. S.
