New Developments Add Capability to Blenders

Chemical & Engineering News · 1963

Four new developments that have appeared in dry blenders range from a development unit to automatic operation. All four were on view at the 29th Exposition of Chemical Industries in New York's Coliseum. The development unit comes from Allis-Chalmers, is a paddleless, scraperless, augerless blender for continuous or batch processing. J. H. Day has combined two of its cone-screw Nauta mixers into a single twin unit called the Combimixer. Sprout-Waldron has added air sweeping to a ribbon blender for cleaning the unit after the mixing cycle. Rounding out the new developments is Patterson-Kelley's fully automatic Twin-Shell batch blender. The Allis-Chalmers unit is basically a series of cones affixed to a hollow shaft in such a way that material in one cone tumbles during rotation and splits, with half going to the forward cone and half to the preceding cone. In this way the unit has a tumbling, splitting, and reversing motion ...
