The morphology of eigenstates of a chaotic quantum system is studied and quantitative measures for a class of localized states given. A detailed account of highly excited eigenstates of a coupled quartic oscillator system is presented, and it is shown that while information entropy measures are appropriate for the identification of a class of localized states, visual methods are necessary for an unambiguous identification of these states. We demonstrate that for some other types of localization visual methods appear to be, at the moment, most suitable. We also identify distinctclasses of localizedstates some of which, we believe, are new.
