Automating Apps and Infrastructure with Ansible
Christopher Negus · 2020
For infrastructure and more traditional application deployments, Ansible is becoming a leader. This chapter takes readers through what they should know about Ansible to get started. It steps readers through deploying an application across a set of Linux systems with Ansible and shows them how to work with those systems later by redeploying playbooks and running ad-hoc commands. At its most basic level, Ansible comprises an automation language, the automation engine, and interfaces which can be used to manage and secure playbooks and other automation components. The chapter discusses two Ansible components, inventories and playbooks. To get started using Ansible, it explains a procedure to deploy a web service to a set of hosts. After installing Ansible, the procedure shows how to create the inventory and playbook which users need to deploy that service. Then the procedure shows how to use ansible-playbook to actually deploy the playbook.
