Mistakes

Bart R. McDonough · 2018

We make basic security trade-offs every day and evaluates whether to lock our car doors, consider what method of payment to use, and weigh how much information we should share. We still carry a primitive “fight-or-flight” response, sourced in the amygdala center of our brain. It's important to practice the “Brilliance in the Basics” techniques to remain secure in our everyday life. Mistakes can make us the source of a data breach. With a click of the Send button and the wrong recipient listed, we can inadvertently leak sensitive information. It's vital to slow down and verify the recipient is correct before sending emails. Email services, like Gmail and Outlook, offer options to retract emails. It's also a dangerous mistake to mix the personal and work accounts. There's no better example than the Sony Pictures data breach.
