Michael Riordan and Lillian Hoddeson's book, Crystal Fire: the Birth of the Information Age, which was reviewed by Robert Keyes (December pp44–45), refers to the invention of the transistor in 1947. It attributes the achievement to Walter Brattain, John Bardeen and William Shockley, who were awarded a Nobel Prize for their efforts.
