Production Phase

Mark A. Levin, Ted T. Kalal, Jonathan Rodin · 2019

There are two major objectives in the production phase. The first addresses production ramp. The objective is to quickly achieve design maturity and ramp to the desired production levels. The second major objective is to have mechanisms in place (quality controls) to ensure the quality of the product before volume production is achieved. This chapter illustrates the activities that take place in the production phase. Only a few tools are needed to ensure quality in the products produced. These tools fall into two categories: quality control and product improvement. Failure reporting, analysis, and corrective action system (FRACAS) provides an effective process to identify problems quickly and monitor the progress made toward resolution. The reliability growth report and the FRACAS report are the primary reports used by the Failure Review Board to evaluate progress. The reliability activities through Phase 4 focused on improving design reliability and software quality.
