Surveillance Techniques

Charles P. Nemeth · 2019

Surveillance is an integral component for any security practice, but its object, and the activities under scrutiny, are unknowing subjects. Surveillance complements traditional methods of investigative tracking and rests side by side with direct observation. The uses of surveillance by the security investigator are unlimited and only constrained by the investigator’s area of practice and skill set. Solid surveillance practice keeps the endgame in view by laying out specific objectives for the action. Surveillance should never be an unrestrained and unchecked activity or a prophetic hope that some sort of criminality or liability will emerge. The surveillance subject can be either a person or a nonhuman entity, such as a plant, business, industry, or other installation. In cases of multiple auto surveillance, the lead team can notify the other surveillance vehicles, then continue straight, turn around and try to reestablish the tail.
