Introduction to quantum information

Abstract This chapter gives a short introduction to the field of quantum information. Although the chapter is self-contained, it cannot hope to cover the totality of what is now a large and active field of research. Rather, the aim is to give a taster of the subject to whet the appetite of the reader. More complete introductions may be found in any of a now large collection of books and review papers devoted to the topic.
