Biometric Technology Today · 2010
To some, biometrics is simply a technology for identifying or verifying that an individual is who they claim to be. But while it certainly does this, it is also emerging in the developing world as something that will enable countries to take the leap to the 21st century and help promote democracy, maintain stability and enable economic empowerment. Interest in and funding for the technology's use in emerging markets is growing, with organisations such as the World Bank, the EU, the World Health Organization and Interpol driving deployment.
