T is a great pleasure and honor for me to congratulate you on the establishing the new Journal on Selected Topics in Nano Electronics and Computing.I'd like to take this opportunity to acquaint the readers of the journal with Petrozavodsk State University (PetrSU) and with some university activities in the field of information technology.PetrSU is one of the acknowledged leaders in the field of information technology among Russian universities.The Regional Center for New Information Technologies of PetrSU, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2011, was a cradle of computer facilities in Karelia.There are several important directions of PetrSU in applied research and development projects such as information systems, decision-making support systems, information and analytical system of university management, automation systems, automated production control systems, geoinformation systems, Web-applications and Internet-portals, distance learning systems, information-measuring systems, research in the field of low-temperature plasma and micro-and nano-electronics, advanced technologies in construction, water treatment, agriculture, timber industry, biology and ecology, medicine, etc.The university is engaged in developing information and educational environment, material and technical foundation for introducing information and communication technology into education and scientific research, e-learning development and formation of electronic resources both for the university, and for the entire regional education system, public health services and culture in the European North of Russia.PetrSU IT-park is actively developing.
