The Fundamental Property of Wavelets

Birkhäuser Basel eBooks · 2009

In the previous chapter we saw in some detail what a couple of biorthogonal multiresolution analyses is, and how this structure allows to build a wavelet basis. However we did not yet introduce the one property that makes of wavelets the powerful tool that they are and that probably is their fundamental characteristics: the simultaneous good localization in both space and frequency. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
