Identify the architecture of a mobile core network and describe the functionality of the main network elements. Identify the elements that are added to the core network to support packet data and describe the functions of these elements. Explain typical mobile network procedures, such as Location Update and Call Setup List typical IN services and identify the architecture necessary to deliver these. Describe how messaging services are integrated into the core network. Understand the motivation for moving to all-IP networks. Describe how the Internet Protocol operates and identify the other protocols and applications that it supports. Make a list of service platforms and explain their role in the mobile network. Outline the need for OSS/BSS systems and describe the typical systems you expect to find as part of OSS/BSS system. Show what elements or information can be used to bill for services used in mobile networks n n n n n n n n n n For any cellular network, the procedures can be split into different requirements. The basic requirements include categories for: Establishing the radio connection to the network Managing the location of the individual users Establishing a full call connection The categories above are in priority order, because a radio connection must be established before information on a user’s location can be exchanged; and the location is required before a call can be established.
