Erdős Magic

Joel Spencer · 2019

Erdos Magic was inaugurated with a 3-page paper of Erdos in the Bulletin of the AMS in 1947. Over the past half century, however, Erdos Magic has become mainstream mathematics. UCSD gives a year long course “Probabilistic Combinatorics and Algorithms” and many other schools have similar offerings. In this expository work, the authors explore some of the breakthrough results using Erdos Magic. In recent decades, however, emphasis has moved from random objects to random processes, or algorithms. The notion of quasirandom was broadly extended to the notion of graphons, in an effort spearheaded by Laszlo Lovasz.
