Voice and Data Network Integration
Larry Schessel · Auerbach Publications eBooks · 2000
Companies with private voice networks own one or more private branch exchanges (PBXs) to deliver the service. A PBX is the switching element that link two users together in a voice connection. PBXs can be broken done into the following basic functional components: • Wiring: PBXs require dedicated wiring to each telephone in the company. This allows employees to call other employees connected to the PBX. To gain access to the public service telephone network (PSTN), PBXs require outside lines purchased from the local public telephone company.
