The Processing of Orthographic Information
Dale M. Willows, Richard Kruk, Richard Kruk, Evelyne Corcos · 2012
Orthographic information (01) is found in the spelling patterns of written language and provides both readers and spellers with information regarding the probabilities of certain letter sequences and their spatial position within words. For this reason, 01 is central to fast and accurate access to words from the lexicon, and, although this is likely achieved via a dual code-that is 01 is encoded visually and phonemically-there is little doubt that 01 is "knowledge particular to print" (Kolers, 1985). The focus of this chapter is on the visual rather than phonemic aspect of OI.
