Installing and Configuring vCenter Server

Nicholas Marshall, Mike Brown, G. Blair Fritz, Ryan Johnson · 2018

This chapter helps administrators to understand the components and role of vCenter Server and Platform Services Controller, plan a vCenter Server deployment, install and configure the Platform Services Controller, and install and configure vCenter Server. It also helps the administrators to use the vSphere Web Client's System Configuration to view all vCenter Server nodes, use the vSphere Web Client's System Configuration to export a log bundle from vCenter Server, and use vCenter Server's Virtual Appliance Management Interface to view service status. Every vCenter Server has one or more root objects; these are data center objects, which serve as a container for all other objects. To make it easier for vSphere administrators to find and change the settings that affect the behavior or operation of a vCenter Server instance, VMware centralized the settings into a single area within the vSphere Web Client user interface.
