Flying at low altitude, helicopters may touch high voltage towers, power lines and other obstacles which will result in CFIT. In order to reduce the frequency of such accidents, it is necessary to design a set of effective forward-looking obstacle alarm algorithm to ensure the flight safety of helicopter. This paper first studies the two classic index structures of KD tree and quad tree, compares them through experiments, and then selects the quad tree for data retrieval in the obstacle database. The results show the quadtree algorithm can improve the indexing speed in retrieving obstacle data, meet the real-time requirements, and has certain feasibility.
