Secure Heterogeneous and Federated Database Systems

Bhavani Thuraisingham · Auerbach Publications eBooks · 2005

In Chapter 15 we discussed discretionary security and in Chapter 16 we discussed multilevel security for distributed database systems. We assumed that the systems were homogeneous. That is, the database systems were designed identically. In the case of discretionary security, the major issue was enforcing security policies and access-control rules across the nodes. In the case of multilevel security, we assumed that the distributed processors operating at level L communicate with each other. Furthermore, we also assumed that all MLS/DBMSs were designed identically and were augmented by multilevel distributed processors.
