Most malicious web sites are hacked
Network Security · 2008
Web users are more vulnerable to drive-by downloads than ever before, according to a report from Websense Security Labs. Over half of all sites attacking users with drive-by downloads are legitimate ones that have been hacked, according to a report from Websense Security Labs. In its research highlights for the second half of 2007, the company found that 51% of web sites carrying malicious code were legitimate ones that had been compromised, rather than sites specifically set up by online criminals for the purpose. It also found that 18% of malicious web sites had been created using a toolkit, up 3% from the same period in 2006.
