Data Visualisation in Excel

Daniel Duffy · 2018

This chapter introduces a software framework to display numeric data in Excel. It focuses on visualising vectors, matrices and curves in the Excel spreadsheet program. The chapter also gives a global overview of the objects in Excel (the Excel Object model) that can be accessed from the Excel driver software. Understanding these objects will help if the developers decide to examine the corresponding C++ source code. In all cases, the Excel objects use component object model (COM) and they define interfaces that can be accessed programmatically. The chapter then gives the generic examples to show how the Excel driver works without becoming embroiled in software design decisions or mathematically advanced discussions. It further provides examples that are related to computational finance. In addition to these examples, the chapter simulates the paths of quantities that are defined by stochastic differential equations (SDEs).
