Choicepoint gets biggest FTC fine ever

Choicepoint has to pay a $15 million settlement for failing to protect consumer information from identity theft. The company will pay the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) $10 million — the biggest civil fine ever. In addition, it must pay $5 million in compensation to consumers. The FTC said that 800 people had their identities stolen because of a security breach at Choicepoint.
